Dr. Coburn has a longstanding interest in emergency medicine and is very committed to comprehensive care of Grand County residents and visitors having practiced in the Emergency Rooms of Grand County since 2005. After graduating with honors from the University of Iowa medical school, he completed his residency in family medicine at Fort Ord, CA. He practiced as a military physician, providing comprehensive care for our troops and their families. He retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Colonel after having served his last overseas duty in Iraq. He is the recipient of many military honors, including the Bronze Star Medal.

Dr. Coburn moved to Colorado 19 years ago and maintained his military ties through the National Guard. As the state surgeon and commander of the Colorado Medical Detachment, Dr. Coburn was responsible for the overall care and readiness of our National Guard troops. He joined Associates in Family Medicine in 1997, and he has served as chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Medical Center of the Rockies for six years. At Associates in Family Medicine, his practice included sports medicine, obstetrics, pediatric care, and general family medicine.

Since becoming a full time ER physician serving Grand County, Dr. Coburn has taken on additional responsibility as the Chief Medical Officer of MPMC.His primary focus after delivering excellent medical care to the residents of Grand County is to work with private community physicians and other care givers in Grand County to create an integrated health care system to improve the health of all our residents and visitors.

When not at work in the summer Dr. Coburn can be found mountain biking and golfing at the outstanding facilities in Grand County. In the winter, time is spent with friends and family, downhill and Nordic skiing.A former international rugby referee he now devotes time giving back to that sport by coaching up and coming referees.
